Malaysia Tyre Market Research 2026: Seven Data Sources That Actually Matter

Seven authoritative and commercial data sources for analysing Malaysia’s tyre market without relying on an unsupported market-size estimate.

REPORT2026.09.25MALAYSIA

Search for “Malaysia tyre market size” and you will find confident numbers built on very different definitions. Some refer to manufacturing value, some to imports, some to replacement demand and others to every tyre category combined. A useful market study starts by defining the question and triangulating several sources.

1. MAA vehicle sales and segment mix

The Malaysian Automotive Association publishes monthly production and sales releases and annual market reviews. Its 2025 review provides total industry volume and vehicle-segment information. This helps estimate the future replacement base and understand the changing mix of passenger cars, SUVs, commercial vehicles and electrified vehicles.

Limitation: registrations are not tyre replacements. Replacement timing depends on mileage, use, tyre type and maintenance.

2. JPJ component standards

JPJ’s Component Type Approval page identifies mandatory standards for automotive components including new and retreaded pneumatic tyres. This is essential for screening product eligibility and planning approval work.

Limitation: a summary page is not a regulatory opinion. Confirm current requirements for the exact product.

3. MITI tyre-import policy

MITI’s rubber-industry policy page distinguishes new tyres from used and retreaded tyres and describes applicable standards and import treatment. It helps researchers understand why product category and HS classification matter.

4. DOSM external-trade data

OpenDOSM publishes Malaysian trade datasets and explains provisional-data caveats. Detailed commodity research should use the correct HS code, period, unit and partner-country definition. Headline rubber-product exports should not be treated as tyre trade because the category includes other products.

5. PUSPAKOM inspection signals

PUSPAKOM releases can reveal operational changes affecting commercial vehicles and fleets. Its 2025 inspection update, for example, changed the commercial-vehicle tread-depth procedure to require at least 1.6mm across the full tread surface.

6. MIDA technology and investment reporting

MIDA’s 2025 investment report recorded 44,813 EV registrations. EV adoption can affect load requirements, rim mix, noise expectations, rolling-resistance conversations and workshop training needs.

7. Workshop sell-through and enquiry data

Public data describes the market from above. Workshop data explains it from the counter: sizes requested, brands compared, prices rejected, fitments unavailable, booking conversion, reorder frequency and claim reasons. This information is often messy but commercially decisive.

A better market-size method

Define the segment first—for example, passenger-car replacement tyres in Peninsular Malaysia—then build a range using vehicle base, replacement interval assumptions and likely units per replacement. Test the result against trade data, distributor movement and workshop evidence. Publish the assumptions instead of presenting one opaque number as fact.

Useful market intelligence is not the biggest number. It is the clearest chain from source to assumption to commercial decision.
